Course 2023-2024
The first edition of the contest was presented at the AIC of Amorebieta. Idea was conceived as a contest in which the centers were asked to propose different projects.
Izarraitz LHII, thanks to the participation of all the students, presented the proposal of the prototype called Sidebike, thinking of users with functional diversity, seeking to place an adapted seat next to a bicycle. To carry out this project, collaboration between students from different areas was encouraged, defining different challenges:
– Students of Social and Cultural Services could make a definition of needs.
– Carpentry and Mechanical Manufacturing students could manufacture the necessary elements.
– Mechatronics students could do the assembly.
– Those in the administrative field could have prepared a marketing campaign.
– Health students could have added a box of medicines to cure possible wounds.
– The computer science students could have created a bicycle tracking application.
With this proposal, Izarraitz won the 1st prize in this first edition.
Course 2024-2025
In this second edition, the format of the contest changed: the deadlines were extended and the ideas contest became a prototype contest.
Izarraitz, seeing the success of the previous year, taking last year’s Sidebike project as a basis, decided to manufacture and implement a prototype. To do so, a group of professors defined the design specifications, focusing on mechanical manufacturing and carpentry parts. At the same time, in collaboration with the company Aitzaki Kirolak from Azkoitia, the electrification kit and all the elements needed to assemble the bicycle were defined and acquired.
Specific challenges were also defined to guide the students’ work, based on the ideas of the previous year:
– The students of the cycle of Care for People in a Situation of Dependency defined the characteristics of the Sidebique. To do so, they met with the Marea Urdina association of Azkoitia and with another potential user. After applying what they had learned to the project, they carried out an awareness campaign in the center, making presentations of the project in groups.
– The carpentry students, after a lot of work, managed to make the bicycle frame and the side seat.
– The Mechanical Manufacturing students made specific parts where greater strength was required, such as the steering and the rear wheel joining elements.
– The mechatronics students collected and assembled the work done by the two previous groups, making the vehicle available.
– The administrative students collected the prototype and created a marketing video and several publications for social networks.
– As a complement to the vehicle, the nursing students added a box of medicines to be carried by bicycle.
– To finalize the project, an IT student created an application to track the vehicle, providing statistics on its use.
Thanks to the work done, Izarraitz LHII won first prize in the Bike Talent competition for the second year in a row.
